9 Days Serengeti Migration Photo Safari Tours

Our 9 Days Serengeti Migration Photo Safari Tours have been designed specifically to help you witness the great wildlife show on Earth, as thousands of wildebeest and zebras attempt to cross the mighty Mara River on their annual migration from the Serengeti to the Maasai Mara. We have designed the itinerary to include both the central Serengeti and remote northern Serengeti National Park where the majority of the wildebeest migration can normally be found from August to October. Over 9 days, you’ll visit some of the region’s wildlife hotspots as you journey through Tarangire National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater before game driving through the savanna of Serengeti. To save on unnecessary travel time and to increase your game viewing time, this itinerary has been designed that you fly back from the Serengeti National Park to Arusha town. Each of these game areas will delight you with the prospect of seeing Africa’s Big 5: Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Rhinoceros and Cape Buffalo.

If you have more time, considering pairing this Tanzanian safari tour with a thrilling Mt Kilimanjaro climb adventure, or a relaxing holiday to Zanzibar to add to your Tanzania Safari Trip!

August – October

Day 1 – Arusha

On arrival at the Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be greeted by a EMT&S representative and transported to Arusha Coffee Lodge where you’ll spend your first night. Take time to settle in and overcome any jet lag or opt to explore the town at your leisure.

Day 2 – Game Drive Tarangire National Park

After breakfast at the lodge, it’s time to depart Arusha and drive towards Tarangire National Park, which is one of Northern Tanzania’s underrated gems. It’s home to huge herds of elephants, wildebeest, zebra and giraffe, as well as buffalo and over 550 bird species. Witness the largest bird in the world - the ostrich - then continue to Country lodge for the night near Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 3 – Ngorongoro Crater

Following breakfast, you’ll travel to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s renowned for its natural beauty. Descend into the crater to explore what’s been referred to as “Africa’s Garden of Eden”, with around 25,000 wildlife species and myriad birdlife calling the crater “home”. The towering walls of this volcanic caldera act as a natural enclosure for zebra, buffalo, antelope and wildebeest, as well as black rhinos that can be seen inhabiting the dense forests and sprawling grasslands.

Day 4 and 5 – Central Serengeti

Spend the next two days exploring the Serengeti National Park, one of East Africa’s most iconic wildlife-viewing destinations. As you enter the park, keep your eyes peeled for the herds of wildebeest and zebras on their annual migration, together with large numbers of gazelles, giraffe and opportunistic predators following in their wake. Overnight at Ole Serai Luxury Camp

Day 6 – North Serengeti, Mara River Kogatende

Begin the day with a game drive through the Central Serengeti before heading north to the mighty Mara River where the herds congregate in late August. Watch as large numbers of wildebeest and zebras gather on the banks before making the precarious crossing (in the hope of eluding the resident crocodiles) in what’s referred to as the “World Cup of Wildlife”. Stay at Ole Serai Luxury Camp Kogatende

Day 7 and 8 – Mara River Serengeti

Day 9 - Departure

After breakfast at your camp, it’s time to return to the Kogatende Airstrip (enjoying a game drive en route) for your flight back to the Kilimanjaro, Arusha or Nairobi International Airports
