How much does the mandatory Tanzania travel insurance cost?
The current premium for Mainland Tanzania’s mandatory inbound travel insurance is US$44 per person.
The current pricing structure includes:
- Adults aged 18 and above: US$44
- Children aged 3–17: US$22
- Children aged 0–2: Free
- Groups of 10 or more adults: 10% discount on the adult premium
Travelers should check the official NIC insurance portal before purchasing because fees and procedures may be updated.
Does my existing travel insurance replace the mandatory policy?
No.
Even if you already have international travel insurance, private medical insurance, or insurance through a credit card, you may still be required to obtain the designated Tanzanian inbound travel insurance.
We recommend keeping your existing comprehensive travel insurance as well. The mandatory inbound policy should not automatically be considered a replacement for broader travel protection such as trip cancellation, trip interruption, personal liability, or specialized activities.

Arriving in Zanzibar
If Zanzibar is your first point of entry, Zanzibar has its own mandatory inbound insurance system administered by the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC).
